Mong Kok Madness

Today I rode a minibus to Mong Kok for shopping. I used my octopus card, which was very convenient. I only have to hold my wallet up to the reader - I don't even have to take the card out.

Mong Kok is the big central shopping district in Hong Kong. Lots of bargains to be found. Since I'm giving away or trading my AIESEC tshirts, I bought a few new tshirts for about US$7 each. I also purchased a really nice new suit - including pants for US$75. Not too shabby.

I looked for a cell phone but could not quite find one that I liked. Instead, Dominic offered me the free phone he received from his bank. His free phone is so much nicer than my US one.

You can find everything in Mong Kok, and part of it reminds me a lot of Times Square in New York. The other part reminds me of the bargaining markets in Nassau.

I rode a double decker bus for the first time ever yesterday. Also, check out this sweet and sour kids drink that Dominic gave me - contains "live lactobacillus", which is apparently a type of bacteria.

Tomorrow I will meet with all the AIESECers to give my country presentation along with a trainee from Japan.

Wednesday will be the annual dragon boat race and festival in Hong Kong. Thrilling!

Today AIESEC HKU took me to lunch nearby for dim sum. Words can't even begin to describe just how wonderful the food here tastes. I tried everything from sweet rolls to chicken feet.

I met twelve wonderful AIESECers - Celina* (M&S), Helen (M&S), Candy* (M&S), Vivien* (Reception), Angie* (HR), Janet* (ER), Doris* (ER), Michael (ER), Vivian* (Reception), Dominic (PD), Tammy* (OGX), and Cyrus (LCP). As a point of reference, the starred names are law students. Cyrus is studying sports and leisure management, Helen is industrial engineering, and Dominic is electronic engineering.

Tonight I will visit Mongkok for shopping (new cell phone especially!) and then finish up my country presentation for tomorrow. How exciting!

Here's your wake-up call...

I was surprised to find out that I will be getting an 8am wake-up call every morning by the giant loud construction happening outside my window. Oh well, I get much work done in the morning.

My roommates are wonderful! Crystal is Finance and PD director for the MC, Melina is a CEED from Argentina, and Andrea (Andy) is from Germany. Crystal also happens to love penguins, so I showed her penguin warehouse website. Also, she will be moving to Brussels soon as PwC director, and Andrea to Rotterdam to work for AI. Wow, such famous AIESECers!

More good news, Crystal just found out that not only will she be getting an HK$8000 reimbursement from IC, but also PwC will pay for her flight to Belguim! Give me a break! Fantastic! Shopping, share the luck :).

After 19 hours in a plane and 10 hours in an airport, I've finally arrived at my final destination for the summer - Hong Kong.

Last night was a blur of friendly faces reflected in tall buildings. I was greeted at the airport by three lovely ladies from AIESEC HKU - Celina, Helen, and Candy - who were nice enough to take me to my apartment and show me the ropes.

Midnight rendevous with a sleepy Sara didn't work out, but I did catch some fantastic food from a local diner - egg noodles and shrimp wonton. Can you say Freshman 15 all over again?

I'm all snuggled into my new home for the next 3 months. It's not small, it's cozy :).
